Membership in the organization is open to persons who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting and encouraging Bhojpuri and Bhojpuri culture. The Bhojpuri Association of India (BHAI) is a registered organization under the Societies Registration act of 1860 with aim and objective to further the interest and welfare of the persons from Bhojpuri speaking areas and also to act as the umbrella entity for other Bhojpuri Associations operating in India and abroad. There are currently five categories of membership.

• Primary Membership: Primary membership shall be available to any adult residing in India or abroad, who is of Bhojpuri-origin or whose mother tongue is Bhojpuri. Such an individual who has completed an application form or has met such other qualifications as may be prescribed by the National Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and has paid the Regular Membership dues in effect at the time of application is eligible for primary membership.
  
  
• Associate Membership: Residents of India and abroad who are non-bhojpuriyas and may not be directly involved with Bhojpuri language, but interested in attending the events and activities of BHAI and wish to support its objectives through generous donations may be offered Associate Membership.
  
  
• Student Membership: Student membership shall be available to individuals who qualify for primary membership provided he/she is enrolled in an educational institution in India or abroad and is pursuing a degree at the time of applying or renewing membership. Student membership provides all the benefits of BHAI at a discounted fee. Proof of student such as Student ID and University enrollment letter may be required.
  
  
• Life Membership: Life membership shall be available to individuals who qualify for primary membership and pay a one-time life membership fee to BHAI. Life members will enjoy all the benefits of BHAI.
  
  
• Honorary Membership: The Association may confer an Honorary Membership as recognition to a distinguished member of the Bhojpuri community who has influenced Bhojpuri population world-wide, contributed significantly to the development of Bhojpuri language, arts and culture or has played an instrumental role in the advancement of BHAI and its objectives. The decision to grant honorary membership shall be made by National Executive Committee upon the recommendation of BHAI members.
